James Madison University


James Madison University (otherwise called JMU, Madison, or James Madison) is an open coeducational exploration college situated in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States. Established in 1908 as the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg, the organization was renamed Madison College in 1938, out of appreciation for President James Madison, and named James Madison University in 1977. The college is arranged in the Shenandoah Valley, with the grounds quadrangle situated on South Main Street in Harrisonburg. 

Established in 1908 as a ladies' school, James Madison University was set up by the Virginia General Assembly. It was initially called The State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg. In 1914, the name of the college was changed to the State Normal School for Women at Harrisonburg. At in the first place, scholastic offerings included just today's likeness specialized preparing or junior school courses; however approval to grant four year certifications was conceded in 1916. Amid this beginning time of advancement, the grounds arrangement was set up and six structures were built. 

James Madison University is viewed as "More Selective" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
