Western Carolina University

Western Carolina University (WCU) is a coeducational state funded college situated in Cullowhee, North Carolina, United States. The college is a constituent grounds of the University of North Carolina framework.

The fifth most seasoned institution[6] of the sixteen four-year colleges in the UNC framework, WCU was established to teach the general population of the western North Carolina mountains. WCU now serves more than 10,000 full-time undergrad and post graduate understudies, giving a training to understudies from 48 states and 35 countries.Enrollment for the Fall 2014 semester was 10,382 understudies.
In 1888, the occupants of Cullowhee wanted a superior school for the group than was offered in state funded schools of that day, sorted out a leading group of trustees and built up a group school that came to be known as Cullowhee Academy. Established in August 1889 as a semi-open optional school and sanctioned as Cullowhee High School in 1891 (likewise called Cullowhee Academy), it served the Cullowhee group and boarding understudies from neighboring provinces and different states. The organizer, Robert Lee Madison, needed to give an instruction to the youngsters in the district and prepare educators to spread training all through the western piece of the state. In 1893, through the endeavors of Walter E. Moore, delegate from Jackson County, the North Carolina Legislature approved an appointment for the foundation of a typical office at the school "with the end goal of preparing instructors". This assignment turned into the first freely subsidized ordinary school in North Carolina.
