Athens State University is a two-year upper level college situated in Athens, Alabama, United States. Thirty-three distinct majors are offered to junior and senior understudies. The majors are housed in one of three universities: Education, Arts and Sciences, and Business.
Athens State University started as the Athens Female Academy in 1822. The Methodist Church took control of the organization in 1842, changing the name to the Athens Female Institute. It got to be Athens Female College in 1889.
In 1931 the name was abbreviated to Athens College when it got to be coeducational. In 1974 the condition of Alabama took control, and the school got to be known as Athens State College. Later, in 1998, the school got to be Athens State University. As of late, Athens State has moved to a self-governing college status and has set up a leading body of trustees.
